Shea butter is a skin superfood that comes from the seeds of the fruit of the Shea (Karite) tree and that is naturally rich in vitamins A, E and F. It offers UV protection (it is SPF ~6) and provides the skin with essential fatty acids and the nutrients necessary for collagen production. Many studies show that it is especially good at penetrating the skin and contains 60% fat, making it highly emollient. It delivers key anti-inflammatory and anti-aging components right into the skin. We soap with it because of its complex fats. Its has many nonsaponifiable components so that means many of those skin-loving nutrients listed above remain in the soap after the saponification process making our soap very moisturizing. Our butters and whips contain a high percentage of Shea Butter.
Cocoa Butter is high in fatty acids, which is why it's often touted for its ability to hydrate and nourish the skin and improve elasticity. The fat in cocoa butter forms a protective barrier over the skin to hold in moisture. Cocoa butter is also rich in natural plant compounds called phytochemicals. These substances may improve blood flow to the skin and slow aging by protecting against damage from the sun's harmful UV rays.
